Supporting Local is The Gift That Keeps on Giving
There's a statistic worth knowing before you next choose where to spend your money: for every £1 spent with a small or medium-sized business, 63p stays within the local economy. Compare that with the fraction that remains when the same pound is spent with a large national or international retailer and the difference is significant.
Shopping small isn't just a nice idea. It's one of the most direct and meaningful ways to support the communities, makers and independent businesses that give a place its character. Every purchase is a vote for the kind of economy and high street worth having.
Pop-Ups, People and the Joy of Meeting in Person

The early years of JustBe Botanicals were shaped by face-to-face connection, especially as online shopping wasn't really a thing. Through my personal interests in yoga, shopping and the connections I'd made with other start-up businesses through Entrepreneurial Spark, I was fortunate to have festive pop-up opportunities at White Stuff and Lululemon on Edinburgh's George Street, as well as at Gleneagles, one of the most iconic hotels in the world.
When you have an aromatherapy based business, there's something irreplaceable about people being able to smell and experience your range literally first hand, including being able to taste the chocolates, which were always a big draw and talking point.
That direct human connection, the conversation that starts with a chocolate tasting and ends with someone discovering their favourite scent, is something no website can fully replicate. It's where the JustBe community was built, one person and hand massage at a time.

I've also support the spas and salons who carry the JustBe range with their own customer events and evenings. A particularly memorable one was a Christmas shopping event at Armathwaite Hall Spa in the Lake District, a beautiful, historic hotel whose spa team had embraced JustBe from the very beginning. Armathwaite Hall was where our first professional spa treatments were introduced, where the JustBe Elemental experience, including a thermal peat wrap, was first offered to guests and went on to become their most popular spa treatment. I enjoyed six happy years working with the team at Armathwaite.
Shopping Small at Christmas and Beyond
The festive season is when the decision to shop small matters most, not because it's convenient but because it's considered. A gift from an independent maker carries something a mass-produced alternative simply cannot: the knowledge that a real person made it, chose the ingredients carefully and put their name behind it.
At JustBe Botanicals, every product is still hand-blended in small batches in Scotland. Still made with positive intention and genuine care. When you choose JustBe, you're choosing a small, independent Scottish business.
With gratitude for every purchase, every conversation and every person who has supported us from the very beginning, Gail
