Intentions, Not Resolutions
There's a difference between a resolution and an intention and it matters more than you might think.
Resolutions tend to be external, outcome-focused and often carry an undertone of self-criticism. I should be fitter, calmer, more organised. They arrive with pressure and often leave with guilt.
Intentions are different. They're quieter, more inward and rooted in how you want to feel rather than what you want to achieve. I intend to be kinder to myself. I intend to notice the small things. I intend to create space for joy.
That shift, from striving to being, is at the heart of everything JustBe Botanicals stands for.
Why Setting Intentions Works
Writing down your intentions is a simple but genuinely powerful practice. When we articulate how we want to feel or who we want to be, even in a few words, we give ourselves something to return to when the day pulls us off course.
Research in positive psychology consistently shows that people who set clear, values-led intentions are more likely to follow through on behaviours that support their wellbeing. Not because they're more disciplined, but because they're more connected to their why.
Intentions don't need to be grand. Some of the most powerful ones are small: I intend to breathe before I react. I intend to step outside every day. I intend to give myself the care I'd give a good friend.
Creating Space: The Ritual of Beginning
Every intention benefits from a ritual of beginning, a small, sensory moment that signals to your mind and body that this time is intentional.
At JustBe Botanicals, we believe that scent is one of the most powerful ways to create that signal. Rolling a Pulse Point Rollerball across your wrists, inhaling slowly and setting a word or feeling for the day takes less than a minute. But it creates a pause and in that pause, everything becomes a little more considered.
Here are a few simple rituals to support your intentions throughout the day:
Morning - set the tone. Before the day takes hold, take three conscious breaths with an uplifting scent. The Energised or Happy Pulse Point Rollerball works beautifully here - citrus and botanical notes that wake the senses and set a positive, purposeful tone.
Midday - return to yourself. When the day feels like it's running away from you, a quick spritz of the Uplifting Face Toner is a thirty-second reset. Inhale. Remember your intention. Carry on but differently.
Evening - close with care. Intentions also need rest. Wind down with the Tranquil Body Butter or a few drops of essential oil in a warm bath. Let the day finish fully before tomorrow begins.
Choosing Your Intention for the Season
JustBe's seven mood collections make it easy to identify how you want to feel and find a product that supports that feeling. Think of them as a gentle prompt:
If you want to feel joyful and positive: Happy is your collection. If you need calm and rest: Tranquil is calling. If you're ready for fresh energy and clarity: Detox or Energised will meet you there. If you want to be kinder to yourself: JustBe Kind, always. If you need gentle, sensitive support: Pure is your starting point.
Choose one word that feels right for this season. Write it somewhere you'll see it. Then build a small ritual around it because intentions lived in the body are far more powerful than intentions lived only in the mind.
If Not Now, When?
This is one of my favourite questions from the JustBe Inspiration Cards to sit with, because the answer is almost always now.
Now is always a good time to prioritise your wellbeing. Now is always a good time to choose how you want to feel. Now is always a good time to JustBe.
